Fiber-reinforced composite materials are the use of characteristic continuous fibers or continuous fiber products as reinforcing materials. The composite materials formed by bonding these reinforcing materials with adhesives are called fiber-reinforced composite materials. Formerly called fiber-reinforced plastic. This composite material is divided into aramid fiber composite material, glass fiber composite material and carbon fiber composite material.
Carbon fiber is made of polyacrylonitrile fiber, viscose or pitch filament by carbonization. Due to different raw materials and different manufacturing methods, the strength and modulus of carbon fibers are also different. The relative density of carbon fiber is 1.3-1.8, while the relative density of glass fiber is about 2.5; the tensile strength, bending strength and modulus of carbon fiber reinforced composite materials are significantly higher than those of glass fiber reinforced composite materials.
The thermal expansion coefficient of carbon fiber is low, and the shrinkage rate of carbon fiber composite material is 1/2 of that of glass fiber reinforced material and 1/5 of that of unreinforced resin. Carbon fiber reinforced composite material is a new type of composite material with light weight and high strength, which is not only widely used in aviation and aerospace industries, but also has been used in sports and daily necessities. Carbon fiber also has the characteristics of high temperature resistance and electrical conductivity, which can be used for electrostatic spraying and preparation of antistatic parts.
Carbon fibers can be used in thermoplastics such as PC, PC/ABS, PA, PP, PE, and thermosets such as epoxy resins.
Due to its high price, carbon fiber is currently mainly used in automobiles, aircraft and military industries. As carbon fiber manufacturing processes improve and prices decrease, carbon fiber composites will find application in all industrial sectors, including machine building, household appliances, packaging containers and equipment, daily necessities, and more.
